Giving the Basics

Giving the Basics provides products for dignity — deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, baby wipes, trash bags, laundry detergent, etc. — that are not covered by government assistance; products people really need.

Volunteers sort, count and case all kinds of ‘basic’ personal care items for distribution at local pantries, shelters, schools and other charities serving people in need.

All ages are welcome at this event. Wear comfortable shoes (concrete floors) & casual clothing (warehouse setting). This location is in a natural cave so if you do not feel comfortable underground, this may not be a good event for you to attend. The gate closes at 6 pm, so if you are more than 30 minutes late you won’t be able to get inside.

Watch this Video (https://youtu.be/XFQjoci9D-s) to see the impact Giving the Basics is making in KC schools or visit their website (http://www.givingthebasics.org/)for more information.

DIRECTIONS: The warehouse is located in the Downtown Caves, on 31st street between Roanoke Road and Terrace street. Look for a sign that says Dean Underground Caves. Enter the cave, drive to the bottom of the hill and turn right. Keep to the right and go to the very back of the cave and look for the number suite #270. The numbers are on the walls as your drive. The numbers jump around so don’t be alarmed. Park your car in designated parking spots. If you don’t follow these directions no worries the cave goes in one big circle and you will eventually find us! If you have trouble finding us call Selena at 816-582-7857.

This event also repeats every 2nd Tuesday, if you can’t join us this month, hopefully you’ll be able to join us next month.

Waitlist: If an event is full volunteers can join the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you are automatically added to the attending list in the order you joined the waitlist. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you make other plans so the next available person can join in the event of a last minute cancellation.
