FREE t-shirt and nail bag to ALL volunteers @ the BUILD this Friday and Saturday!! Volunteer one day or both. 🙂
We have a great volunteer opportunity this Friday, May 6th AND Saturday, May 7th with Heartland Habitat for Humanity! In celebration of Women Build week and Mother’s Day weekend, we are partnering with Heartland Habitat to BUILD a home for a single mom who wants nothing more than to provide a loving and safe home for her children.
Let’s help BUILD a home where this mother can safely raise her children. This home is still in the construction phase. Last weekend we put up siding and worked on the deck. This build would be a fun thing to experience with your mom or volunteer your time in honor of her!
Heartland Habitat for Humanity’s mission for the Women Build is to empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions. Women Build brings together women from all walks of life to address in a concrete way the housing crisis facing millions of women and children across the globe. Women Build is not about excluding men. It is about including women and opening new doors of opportunity.
Heartland Habitat For Humanity is a wonderful nonprofit organization with a mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for low income families in Johnson, Leavenworth, and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri.
BUILD Volunteers– Construction skills are not needed, but full day commitment is required starting at 8:00am-3:30pm. Volunteers need to arrive promptly to allow time to complete the waiver, receive job assignment, and attend the morning safety meeting.
AGE REQUIREMENTS– Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on the construction site. Under 18 must have a waiver and release form signed by a parent or guardian prior to volunteering.
***STRONG COMMITMENTS ONLY!***
The type of work volunteers help with includes preparing the lots, framing, tiling, siding, painting; just to name a few.
WHAT TO BRING– Please bring a lunch and any snacks or drink you would like. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves. Check the weather forecast and bring things appropriate for the day – extra layer of clothing, sunscreen, rain gear, etc.
WHAT TO WEAR– Volunteers must wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and should bring work gloves. Depending on the location of the build site, volunteers may be working outdoors. Dress appropriately for construction and wear clothing/shoes you don’t mind getting dirty or paint on. Safety is key, therefore no open toed shoes of any kind will be permitted.
TOOLS– Heartland Habitat will provide all tools.
**Please be firm with your commitment when you RSVP. Heartland Habitat plans their workdays based upon the number of volunteers they expect. If your plans change we understand, we just ask that you change your RSVP so that someone else can volunteer. Thank you!!
