#LoveLonger Project: This event is our February with 96.5 The Buzz listeners. Each month Serve KC highlights a different volunteer opportunity for the #BuzzFamily to join us and make a positive impact in our community.
My Father’s House furnishes hope to those in need in Kansas City by collecting, preparing, and distributing donated furnishings and home essentials. Guests are referred to My Father’s House by over 100 partner agencies. Our guests may be veterans transitioning out of homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, children aging out of the foster care system, or families affected by fire or natural disaster, among others. My Father’s House is the furnishings ministry of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
Volunteers can select from a variety of activities. Choose to serve guests as personal shoppers, sort and shelve donations, load guest furniture selections, test electronics, or breakdown materials for recycling all at the My Father’s House warehouse from 9am-Noon.
Age Requirement: Volunteers ages 10-17 welcome with an adult guardian. Liability waiver required at check-in. For volunteers under 18, waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Attire: My Father’s House is located in two very large warehouses. In colder weather, a jacket or heavy sweatshirt is recommended for indoor work. Furniture loaders should dress appropriately for the weather as much of the work is outside.
