Festival of Butterflies at Powell Gardens

Powell Gardens (https://powellgardens.org/) 21st Festival of Butterflies connects you with landscape design gurus, moth and butterfly experts. Spend the day discovering the many species of local butterflies and their host plants, explore the tropical butterfly exhibit with Powell Gardens staff, learn to design a home butterfly garden, and pick up tricks of the trade for caterpillar rearing with local caterpillar rancher Eric Perrette of the Occasional Butterfly.

The Annual Butterfly Festival is here and succeeds with the help of hundreds of volunteers throughout the festival! Kids activities are on August 12th and Serve KC volunteers have been asked to help.

Kids activities include: eco pots, hat making, butterfly wing making, butterfly puppets, and insect hotel building.

With most of the rooms being used for butterflies, we may have to hold some activities under tents on the lawns. Please know chairs and water will be provided for outdoor and indoor activities, and you will be in the shade.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to eat snacks during shift and take breaks. With the time ending at 1pm, feel free to bring a light lunch that can be kept in the volunteer lounge downstairs.

Age: Children 16+ are welcome to assist at this event with a parent or guardian.

Attire: Smart casual and comfortable shoes. You may bring sunblock for the small stints we may step out side to work under a tent.

Parking: When entering Powell Gardens there is a ticket booth, let the cashier know you are a volunteer and you will be let in without having to pay for parking.

Valuables: Please leave them in your vehicle as there is no where to secure them. The volunteer lounge is not monitored.

Any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 660-441-5338 or ammo.toto@gmail.com

Waitlist: If the event is full, volunteers can join the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you are automatically added to the attending list in the order you joined the waitlist. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you make plans so the next available person can join the event in case of a last minute cancellation.

I look forward to volunteering with you!
