Operation Breakthrough plays a vital role and makes an impact on the 400 children who call this center their home away from home 5 days a week all year round.
The event will begin with an orientation and tour of Operation Breakthrough presented by Tasha, Volunteer Coordinator.
Serve KC Volunteers have been asked to help the teachers by cleaning high chairs and chairs in the 22 classrooms at Operation Breakthrough. This work will take place during nap time. All cleaning supplies, including rubber gloves, will be provided by Operation Breakthrough. (Note: Serve KC Volunteers may also be asked to set-up the Tuesday Freebie tables. These are used items that have been donated to Operation Breakthrough and are placed on tables for the families to view and take.)
Parking: There is a parking lot located on Troost directly north of Operation Breakthrough. Feel free to park anywhere in that lot and enter the building through the front main door on Troost Avenue through the glass doors.
Dress Code:Closed toed shoes are required. Casual clothing is suggested as you will be cleaning and sanitizing throughout the building.
Photos: Photos are not allowed to be taken of our children unless approved by the Volunteer Coordinator. We strive to respect our children and their family’s privacy. Group photos during various projects are encouraged!
Phones:Phones are not allowed in the classrooms. Please keep them on silent in your pocket. Leave valuables at home or in your car.
Outside food/drinks: Only a water bottle with a lid is accepted when volunteering.
Waitlist: If an event is full volunteers can join the waitlist. If a spot opens up, you are automatically added to the attending list in the order you joined the waitlist. Please remove yourself from the waitlist if you make other plans so the next available person can join in the event of a last minute cancellation.
Operation Breakthrough is a not-for-profit corporation providing a nurturing and safe environment for children of the working poor that began in 1971 by Sister Corita Bussanmas and Sister Berta Sailer. The organization responded to the need for quality child care and provided a nurturing and safe environment for children in poverty. Operation has grown and expanded over the years but the vision has been for all children to have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to provide a safe, loving and educational environment for children in poverty and to empower their families through advocacy, emergency aid and education.
