The Urban Farming Guys have made Kansas City’s inner city their home. Located in the middle of a food desert this nonprofit is a testing ground for sustainable communities in areas where affordable and nutritious food is hard to come by. Volunteers have done everything from building community gardens to construction, painting and renovations on the Makerspace.
THIS WEEK’S PROJECT: Organize work spaces in the Makers Space.
We are looking forward to having a great team of volunteers on Saturday morning. You can arrive as early as 8:30 a.m. at the Makerspace, where there will be cup of coffee and a doughnut ready for you if you are into that sort of thing. We will try to get started with introductions right at 9:00 a.m.
We will be working inside the makers space.
Something new this week is a donation bin for our friends at Cherith Brook, a really inspiring group down the street from us that does great work around community and homelessness. We are collecting winter items for them–coats, hats, gloves, blankets, boots–if you have any extras that you would like to donate.
Additional details about Saturday Volunteer Days is below. Feel free to contact me if you have any question. Jason and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Please bring gloves, a water bottle & dress in comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
We will meet at the Makerspace building, 3700 E. 12th on the corner of 12th & Monroe in KCMO. If you have trouble finding us or arrive late call Candy Fields at 913-220-1370 or Sharon Doris at 913-669-3616.
