L3 | Love Literacy Life – Summer Reading Adventures

Serve KC volunteers will help students check-out books through a mobile library and project base learning activities. The theme this week is Camping.

Serve KC volunteers will work in pairs to cover a station – 1) read-aloud; 2) STEM project/craft; 3) themed snack; 4) independent/partner reading; 5) writing/card making; and, 6) mobile library.

Volunteers AGES 12 AND OLDER, are invited to work with these students (ranging from the 5th grade level and lower) from the surrounding area of Mark Twain Elementary, and members of the congregation in the same age range from Pentecostal Powerhouse.

70% of the students in the area are learning English as their second language. SUMMER READING ADVENTURES is designed to assist students in maintaining and improving upon the language skills they gain over the school year, greatly reducing the academic backslide they might otherwise experience over the summer.
