Have fun, get your hands a little dirty and know that you’re helping to bring fresh produce to those who really need it. We just learned that our friends at After the Harvest KC could use help digging up potatoes Saturday morning at a farm about 10 minutes from the Legends Shopping Center. Exact address will be emailed Friday evening along with any updates.
Gleaning FAQs: Please read if you’re a first time gleaner or have questions.
Bring: Water, sunscreen and garden gloves if you have them.
Dress: Wear a hat, sunglasses, closed-toed old shoes and socks (sandals just don’t work in fields). Lightweight pants and a long-sleeved shirt are recommended—you’ll stay cooler if you’re covered.
NO BUG SPRAY / NO BATHROOMS: Please apply bug spray before you leave home. Most farms are organic, so you won’t be able to spray there. Most farms do not have public restrooms and using the field is never allowed, so you’ll have to drive to the closest facility.
CHECK FOR UPDATES: Please check back on the meetup site prior to leaving your house for last minute any updates. Due to weather this event may need to be canceled or rescheduled.
Waiver: If you have access to a printer please sign & bring to the site
Kid-Friendly: There is no minimum age, but children need to be old enough to follow directions, not step on the crops, or wander off.
Delivery Drivers: After gleaning the produce must be delivered to food banks, pantries or kitchens. Please let the field coordinator know if you’re able to deliver to one of the sites.
If you would like to get more information or sign-up for a glean individually visit the After the Harvest website.
