My Father’s House furnishes hope to those in need in the Kansas City community by collecting, preparing, and distributing donated furnishings and home essentials. Every Saturday morning, clients are referred to the My Father’s House warehouse showroom by partner agencies. Our clients may be veterans transitioning out of homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, children aging out of the foster care system, or families affected by fire or natural disaster, among others. My Father’s House is the furnishings ministry of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Volunteer opportunities are open to all with a heart for serving others.
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for you to choose from:
Personal Shoppers – Assist guests with furniture and household selections. Provide support and encouragement. First time personal shoppers will shadow an experienced shopper until you feel ready to spread your wings and fly!
Donation sorting and shelving – Sort and organize household items. Help fill the shelves for our guests.
Design/Organize: Have an eye for organizing or displaying merchandise? We need you!
Guest Furnishing Load-Outs – Assist with loading furniture and boxes of household items selected by our guests. Help restock the showroom. This will require some lifting.
Fellowship lunch is provided after the guests are served from noon to 1:00 p.m.. ServeKC volunteers are welcome to stay for lunch.
Other information:
Volunteers ages 10-17 welcome with an adult guardian.
Liability waiver required at check-in. For volunteers under 18, waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
My Father’s House is located in two very large warehouses. In colder weather, a jacket or heavy sweatshirt is recommended for indoor work. Furniture loaders should dress appropriately for the weather as much of the work is outside.
