Habitat KC – Rock the Block!

Rock the Block is an annual Habitat for Humanity event where volunteers help with minor home repairs on homes in a 1 block radius in parts of the city where the slightest repair can be a financial burden and neglect is almost the norm.

**** STRONG COMMITMENTS ONLY! ****

Volunteers — Construction skills are not needed, but FULL DAY commitment is required starting at 8:00am – 3:30pm with a lunch break. Volunteers need to arrive promptly to allow time for sign in, house assignment and the morning safety meeting. There will be a check-in table for volunteers on site.

ATTIRE — Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and dress for construction work, items you don’t mind getting dirty, muddy or paint on. Shorts are discourage.

AGE REQUIREMENTS — Volunteers must be 16+ to work on the construction site. Under 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

WHAT TO BRING — Bring a refillable water bottle and work gloves if you have them. Water jugs will be on site.  Other items you may want to bring: rain gear, sunscreen, insect repellent, hats or extra layers of clothing.

TOOLS — Habitat KC provides most tools, however, due to their limited supply of tools we encourage you to bring your own tools if possible.  A good general tool belt to bring would include a hammer, level, tape measure, pencil, speed square, and box knife. Mark your personal tools clearly so they don’t get mistaken for others when cleaning up at the end of the day.  Habitat KC will also gladly accept tool donations.

INCLEMENT WEATHER — Please call the Habitat Volunteer Department (816) 924-1096 ext 101 after 7:15 AM on Saturday morning for updates. There is a chance of snow and if the weather is questionable, they may need to shut down all the sites. You can also call or text Selena at 816-582-7857 if you have questions.

Additional information in the Habitat KC Volunteer Manual.
