Serve July 4th Lunch at KC Community Kitchen! (Episcopal Comm Services)

We will be serving July 4th Lunch, restaurant style, to KC’s homeless and impoverished for Episcopal Community Services in their Kansas City Community Kitchen. The guests have nicknamed it “The Club”– as in the cool place to go!

All volunteers working in KCCK need to be at least 14 years old (can be a little younger with proper adult supervision – please talk with us to learn more). All volunteers need to come wearing closed toed shoes, long pants and wear hats (or we will provide hair nets), modest shirts (no low cut, tight shirts or tank tops).  Lunch is served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. each weekday. Please arrive at 10:30am for orientation.

Volunteers at the kitchen should park in the lot on the west side of the building. The entrance to the lot is off of 8th street (which is one way, heading east).

Dining Room Wait Staff

Wait staff volunteers will be waiting on our guests once they are seated at their tables. It begins with taking and filling drink orders and then listing the menu for the day and giving guests the option to choose which items they’d like. Each volunteer will be waiting on 2-4 guests at a time.

Beverage station

Beverage station volunteers will assist wait staff with meeting beverage orders. This may mean filling glasses and helping deliver them to tables, or making sure that drink coolers get refilled when necessary.

More about ECS…

In January 2016, ECS will begin expanding service at the Kansas City Community Kitchen. We will be moving from the cafeteria service model to a restaurant service model, using volunteers as hosts and wait staff, bringing food on plates to our guests that are seated at tables. This will reduce lines and increase dignity for our guests, giving them the power to choose what they want to eat and increasing interaction with our volunteers.
